Understandably, for many people the thought of blood can be very nerve-racking! But with Hijama there is no or very little pain/discomfort.
Hijama has been practiced for thousands of years mainly in Eastern countries and is a well-known therapy for detoxification of mind, body & soul, and additional specific benefits which conventional medicine often fails to manage effectively but subject to side effects and risks. Although it can be performed any time of month, it is known to be spiritually more beneficial on the 17th, 19th and 21st of each islamic lunar month.
Hijama (Arabic for ‘suction’) is a detoxing procedure used to help many different illnesses as well as promoting general physical and psychological well-being.
Mild suction is created on the skin using special cups placed on 'sunnah' points on the body, moving blood toxins to the skins surface. The cups are removed after a few minutes and a sterile scalpel used to make small scratches on the skin.
These are only tiny scratches on the surface of the skin, NOT deep cuts/incisions.
The cups are placed back on the area and suction is repeated to remove a small amount of blood containing toxins. The cups are again removed and the stagnant toxic blood wiped away and hygienically disposed of. After this, the scratches usually stop bleeding very quickly.
Widely known for its healing and antibacterial benefits, pure Organic Black Seed oil is applied to "seal" the scratches.
It is recommended that you should generally have repeated therapy 2-4 times per year, or as per consultation advice.
The Prophet (PBUH) said: “If there is anything good in the medicines with which you treat yourselves, it is in the incision of the hijama therapist, or a drink of honey….” (Muslim º2205)
Benefits are usually felt 24-48 hrs after the procedure:
